Siyabulela Lethuxolo Xuza – Scientist
As a young boy, Siyabulela was fascinated by a plane dropping election pamphlets in his native town, Mthatha. His fascination, coupled with curiosity ignited in him a passion to pursue science & technology and now engineering. His experiments with his innovation begun in his mother’s kitchen .
After several unsuccessful attempts ,he finally launched his real home-built rocket, the Phoenix. In 2006, he earned himself a gold medal in the Eskom National Science Expo as well as a trip to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Sweden where he presented his work to the Swedish king and queen.
Siyabulela also received the honor of having the minor planet 23182 named after him by the MIT Lincoln Laboratory affiliated to NASA. In 2011, he served as the youngest member of an energy advisory panel to the African Union.
He describes himself as “an aspiring entrepreneur with a passion for using technology to solve the world’s energy crisis.” Be inspired!
